Fuel prices did not increase in October

Following the increases in fuel prices recorded in September, prices for regular diesel S-10 showed stability

The data comes from the Veloe Panorama of Mobility Indicators, which reveal that the national average prices per liter filled were as follows: regular gasoline (R$ 5,855), premium gasoline (R$ 5,957), hydrated ethanol (R$ 3,689), CNG (R$4,553), regular diesel (R$6,183) and S-10 diesel (R$6,284). In relation to the previous month – September – four of the six fuels monitored showed a drop in their respective average prices: CNG (-1,2%), added gasoline (-1,2%), regular gasoline (-1,1%), and hydrated ethanol (-0,9%). In the case of regular diesel and S-10 diesel, average prices determined nationally remained stable. 

In addition to the volatility in international oil prices, some factors have influenced price behavior, up or down, such as changes in taxes and prices charged by Petrobras. 

In the reference month, filling up with a liter of gasoline cost an average of R$5,855, which corresponds to a decrease of 1,1% compared to September. This year, however, the price is 15,6% more expensive. Regionally, the highest prices per liter were identified in the North (R$ 6,287) and Northeast (R$ 5,956), compared to the lowest regional values, in the Southeast (R$ 5,754) and Central-West (R$ 5,803). In terms of monthly variation, the biggest price drops were observed at gas stations located in the Northeast (-2,3%) and South (-1,3%) regions. 

The average price of hydrated ethanol was R$ 3,689 per liter, a decrease of 0,9% compared to September. Year-to-date, the average fuel price decreased by 5,1%. Stations in the North and Northeast sold fuel at the highest prices per liter (R$ 4,676 and R$ 4,355, respectively), while the Central-West and Southeast had the lowest prices (R$ 3,573 and R$ 3,592, respectively). In terms of variation, the most significant price drops occurred in the Northeast (-2,8%), North (-1,2%) and South (-1,1%). 

Finally, a liter of Diesel S-10 was sold at R$ 6,284 on the national average, the same value identified in the national average for September. During the year, the price of S-10 diesel registered a drop of 4,2%. The highest prices charged were found in the North (R$ 6,546) and Central-West (R$ 6,532), while the lowest values ​​were found in the South (R$ 6,114) and Southeast (R$ 6,215). In terms of variation, the increases observed in the North (+0,4%), Southeast (+0,2%) contrast with the declines in the Central-West (-0,5%) and Northeast (-0,3%) and South (-0,1%)

Gasoline x Ethanol 

The Flex Cost-Benefit Indicator shows that during the period, the average price of ethanol was equivalent to 68,4% of the amount charged for the same quantity of gasoline - the same result as the previous month. The percentage is close to the floor of the historical series, recorded in September 2018 (66,9%). 

In the capitals, the indicator fell marginally (to 67,7%), renewing the lowest level since September 2018 (67,2%). As they are below 70%, October indicators maintained the preference for ethanol in supply.
