Soy void begins in Rio Grande do Sul and continues until September 30
For the next 90 days, soybean farmers in Rio Grande do Sul are prohibited from keeping soybean plants alive at any stage of development
Among the 12 main fruits sold at Centrals de Abastecimento do Paraná (Ceasa/PR) in the first six months of this year, six had positive price changes, four decreased and two remained stable. This is one of the issues analyzed in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin for the week of June 28th to July 4th.
The fruits that showed increases were pineapple, Tahiti lemon, Gala apple, melon, strawberry and Niagara grape. A box with eight large pineapple units cost R$75,00 in high summer, rising to R$95,00 last week. A 23-kilo box of medium Tahiti lemon ranged from R$ R$ 45,00 to R$ 50,00.
For the Gala apple, the initial prices for an 18-kilo box went from R$150,00 in the first week of the year to R$190,00 at the end of June. A box of 13 kilos of melon went from R$70,00 to R$90,00. The tray with 4 strawberry bowls reached R$30,00 now, while it was R$23,00 at the beginning of the year. The pink Niágara grape ranged from R$85,00 to R$100,00 for an eight-kilo box.
On the other hand, avocado dropped from R$130,00 for a 20-kilo box charged in January to R$80,00, while a 15-kilo box of papaya formosa went from R$65,00 to R$60,00 . The tommy sleeve followed in the same vein. A 20-kilo box dropped from R$110,00 in January to R$85,00 in the last week of June. The same happened with watermelon, which went from R$3,50 to R$2,00 per unit.
Large pear oranges remained at R$70,00 for a 23-kilo box, although in mid-March and April they had reached R$90,00. A prime caturra/dwarf banana had a price of R$40,00 both at the beginning of the year and now, although it had risen to R$80,00 on February 19, gradually decreasing since then.
According to agronomist Paulo Andrade, Fruit Production analyst at the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), responsible for the bulletin, there is a decrease in Paraná's participation in fruit offers in the Curitiba square. In 2022, taking into account the same fruits analyzed above, the share was as follows: strawberry: 71%; avocado: 60%; lemon: 38%; grape: 35%; orange: 30%; banana: 28%; apple: 10%; watermelon: 5%; mango: 5%; melon: 4%; pineapple: 3% and papaya: 0,3%.
“The degree of dependence, in addition to other factors that affect the supply of these products, have a greater or lesser influence on the price changes for these fruits”, said Andrade.
The harvest of the second 2023/24 corn crop is underway in Paraná. This week it reached 53% of a total area of 2,4 million hectares. Compared to the previous week, there was an increase of 10 percentage points, which is equivalent to more than 240 thousand hectares harvested in one week.
In the field, the conditions of the areas to be harvested remain stable, with 48% in good condition, 33% in average condition and 19% in poor condition. In relation to crop development, 90% is in the final phase, maturation, and only 10% is in grain filling.
Wheat crop conditions worsened again in Paraná. Many municipalities in the northern half of the state are expected to reach 40 days without precipitation this week, meaning that currently only 67% of crops still present good conditions, compared to 69% in the previous week and 95% in the last harvest, in this same period. Crops in average conditions represent 24% (stable) of the area and poor conditions represent 9% (compared to 7% in the previous week).
According to the Deral document, this is the worst start to the harvest since 2011, when intense frosts were recorded in the north of the state and meant that only 62% of crops were considered good at the beginning of July. The frosts that occurred this weekend, in turn, only affected the later planting region, not harming wheat crops, which were in their most cold-tolerant phase.
