​Fruit exports in Tecon Salvador grow 112% in the first half of 2017

The Container Terminal at the Port of Salvador, operated by the Wilson Sons Group, showed record growth of 112% in grape and mango exports in the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 2016. From January to June, 536 containers were handled . The main destinations for the fruits, which are produced in the São Francisco Valley, are the United States and Europe.

“Tecon Salvador has established itself as the first option for producers in this region. Throughout the year, we meet with them to map needs and seek solutions. Today, for example, we can anticipate the arrival of fruits at their destination, ensuring that the product has more shelf life”, highlights Patrícia Iglesias, commercial director of the terminal.

One initiative in this regard was the Packaging Workshop in Porto, held in June, in Petrolina (PE), for producers in the São Francisco Valley. The event brought together 60 people and the objective was to clarify all aspects of fruit transportation, from the farm to boarding the ship.

The Bahian terminal also offers online scheduling, via the Customer Portal, for an exclusive gate for refrigerated cargo. With this, the producer has free time available to collect the load 24 hours a day, in addition to having the PDE (Posterior Shipping Release), which allows the documentation issued by the Federal Revenue Service to be expedited.

Cabotage – Another highlight of the terminal was cabotage, which showed an increase of 18% in the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2016. June also recorded the second best result of the year. 5,3 TEUs were handled in the period, which represented a growth of 22,3% compared to the same month last year. Among the main loads handled are retail (+49%), chemicals and petrochemicals (+16%) and rice (+13%).
