Friesland reports stability in soybean production 2023-24

With about a month and a half to go before the start of the soybean harvest in Paraná, the expectation is that Friesian cooperative members in the region will have stable productivity. The average should reach 69 bags per hectare, a number close to the last three harvests. In the state, there are 117,6 thousand hectares of area planted in the 23/24 harvest by Friesian cooperative members, basically the same as the previous period, which was 117,5 thousand.

According to the coordinator of Agricultural Technical Assistance (Astec) Frísia, André Pavlak, the excessive rain delayed the planting of soybeans, however, in general, the crop is developing within normal limits. 

“We came from a good productivity harvest, which was 22/23, now, on the other hand, it was a marketing harvest where expectations were high, but ended up not being consolidated. For this harvest, there are still a lot of details from a production point of view that deserve attention, so we can understand what it will be like in the future. But, in general, it is positive”, explains Pavlak.

This harvest, there was an 11% reduction in the first harvest corn area of ​​Paraná's cooperative members, due to the grain's profitability perspective. Thus, there was a migration to soybeans. The largest soybean-producing municipalities with members from Friesland are Carambeí, Tibagi and Ponta Grossa, but the grain is produced throughout Campos Gerais.

“I believe that, in terms of disease, due to the rains, it will be challenging, but the scenario should be positive. In my opinion, the greatest caution is in relation to reducing the producer's costs, so that he can do this in a conscious way and not add a commercialization risk up front”, highlights the coordinator of Astec Frísia.
