Frísia is investing in the construction of a new grain receiving warehouse in Tocantins. Located in the municipality of Dois Irmãos do Tocantins, a region close to Pará, the unit will have the capacity to store 21 thousand tons of grain, serving current and new cooperative members in the State. The warehouse is the second to be built by the cooperative in the State of Tocantins and should serve a region that has approximately 45 thousand hectares of planted area, which involves the municipalities of Dois Irmãos do Tocantins, Araguacema, Abreulândia and Goianorte. The inauguration will be in January 2022 and is part of the strategic planning “Towards 100 years”, developed by the cooperative with a focus on expanding its areas of activity.

According to Friesland's Agricultural Business Manager, Marcelo Cavazotti, the region has greater water availability, suitable for agricultural production. “The region has great growth potential due to the climatic conditions, and soybeans and off-season corn can be produced later,” he explained.

The region is characterized by the production of soybeans, corn and extensive livestock farming, totaling an area of 443 thousand hectares of agricultural production, with potential for productive expansion, according to a survey by Frísia.

The new unit will have storage services and supply of inputs to members. “There are places where soy travels 180 km from the field to the first storage unit. This during the rainy season during harvest, taking into account the need to harvest the grain quickly and the scarcity of trucks, makes it quite unfeasible. We are creating a warehouse and drying unit much closer to the producer”, explains Cavazotti.

Organization

The warehouse is being installed on a property with a total area of 317 hectares. The unit will have two reception flows, scales, tipper, two 150 ton/hour lines, two dryers, office, accommodation, cafeteria and input warehouse. The structure allows for the next two to three years of production, but investment is expected for the fourth and seventh years. In the future, we intend to expand grain storage and drying, in addition to the technical assistance sector.

The warehouse located in Dois Irmãos do Tocantins is approximately 150 km away from the first Frísia unit in the State, present in Paraíso do Tocantins. Opened in 2016, the unit was built on a 200-hectare property, with a current capacity of 42 thousand tons of grain storage.

Coordinator of the warehouse in Paraíso do Tocantins, Érica Lima explains that, in the State, there are 91 cooperative members from Friesland, 27 of which are in the micro-region of Dois Irmãos. Of the 45 thousand hectares, the Friesian cooperative members have approximately 10 thousand hectares. In Tocantins, the soybean crop was planted by Frísia cooperative members on 28.270 hectares in 20/21. In the next harvest, the planting perspective is 32.210 hectares.
