The harvest of the first bean crop in Paraná ended this past week. Even with reduced productivity due to weather conditions, the beans harvested are of excellent quality. The information is in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin, from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), for the week of March 17th to 23rd.

The first 2022/23 harvest yielded 193 thousand tons of beans grown on 115 thousand hectares. The volume is practically the same as that achieved in 2022, when it was 195 thousand tons. The loss is due, according to field technicians, to weather conditions, which damaged both cycles. The area had a slightly more significant reduction, given that last year the first harvest covered 139 thousand hectares.

The price of beans rose this past week compared to the previous week. In the case of cored beans, the adjustment was 4%, with a value of R$407,00 per 60-kilo bag. Black beans were sold at R$ 261,00 per bag, which represented an increase of 2,6%. Of the 193 tons harvested, around 71% have already been sold.

corn and soy

The planting of the second corn crop remains delayed in Paraná. The percentage reached 77% of the estimated area. Under normal weather conditions, the volume should have exceeded 90%. In relation to the first harvest, the harvest reached 54%, also at a slower pace compared to recent harvests.

Likewise, the soybean harvest remains delayed, with 60% of the area harvested until this week. In recent harvests it would have exceeded 70% in this period. As for exports, in the first two months of the year, 799 thousand tons of soybeans were sold, while corn totaled 811 thousand tons.

Wheat

Paraná imported 74,7 thousand tons of wheat and exported 75,4 thousand tons in the first two months of 2023. The sales volume is the highest for the period since 2016. According to the document prepared by Deral, the quality of wheat in Paraná has attracted attention with a greater focus on the foreign market.

Fruits

Fruit imports by Brazil, in 2022, were 505 thousand tons, at a cost of US$719,1 million. Nuts, apples, pears, grapes and kiwis, from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Turkey and Italy, represented 65,4% of the values of the 25 fruits imported by the country, and 72,4% in volume. The data analyzed in the agricultural bulletin are from Brazilian Agribusiness Foreign Trade Statistics/Agrostat, from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
