The Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga-RS) once again established itself as a benchmark in the rice sector by bringing together approximately 1.200 participants this Thursday (January 29th), including producers, technicians, researchers, authorities and representatives from the entire rice production chain, during the program of the traditional Irga Field Day.

The event, which aims to integrate research, extension, and the productive sector, focused on the transfer of technologies generated at the agency's six experimental stations, promoting the exchange of knowledge and dialogue among participants, as well as reinforcing IRGA's role as a leader in rice farming in Rio Grande do Sul.

During the tour of the three technical stations, the public had the opportunity to learn firsthand about advancements in the quality of production systems, with particular emphasis on the RS14 Rice System, seed and grain quality, highlighting the advantages of Irga Genetics, and technical, economic, and environmental quality, demonstrating that sustainability and profitability go hand in hand in rice production in Rio Grande do Sul. At the Technological Corridor, the main objective was direct interaction between producers, researchers, and the agency's technical team, addressing a wide range of topics related to cultivation.

During the official ceremony, the new President of Irga, Alexandre Velho, appointed this Wednesday (January 28th), congratulated the entire team involved in organizing the event, highlighting the commitment of the employees and technicians, and reinforcing the agency's commitment to excellence, innovation, and the sustainability of the production system.

The State Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation, Edivilson Brum, who also represented the State Government at the event, highlighted the strategic importance of Irga for rice farming in Rio Grande do Sul, emphasizing its role in strengthening the sector and guaranteeing the quality of rice produced in the state.

The Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (IRGA) plays a fundamental role in encouraging rice production in the state, since Rio Grande do Sul is responsible for approximately 70% of national production, with about 65% of that area cultivated using IRGA genetics.

The Field Day, which concluded its program with the distribution of the traditional Irga's "Carreteiro" (a traditional dish), reaffirms the agency's commitment to valuing the men and women of the countryside, to science applied to agriculture, and to maintaining Rio Grande do Sul's leadership in grain production. The event represents the culmination of work built on research, extension, dialogue, and constant presence with rural producers, directly contributing to the generation of technologies, the development of adapted cultivars, the improvement of production systems, and the transfer of knowledge and productivity.
