Students discover the Diffusion Center for Brazilian Agricultural Sustainability at Esalq
Partnership between Esalq and Syngenta provides space for studies and research in entomology
In November, the Rio Grande do Sul Agronomy Society (SARGS), in partnership with Emater and sponsored by Syngenta, promoted a field day in the municipality of Sertão Santana. The activity is an integral part of the State Soil and Water Conservation Program and introduced participants to conservationist agricultural techniques and their results.
The action involved approximately 450 producers, who came from 11 municipalities in the region. The focus was on tobacco planting, the main activity of the property that hosted the field day. Six stations were set up, where all visitors passed by to listen to quick lectures and practical demonstrations: 1 – Presentation and Property Management; 2 – Environmental Management and pesticide storage; 3 – Colmeia Viva Project (Sindiveg) and GeoApis (Brazilian Association of Bee Studies); 4 – Environmental Management by CAR/PRA; 5 – Irrigation and Fertigation system; 6 – Soil Conservation.
According to Clair Schäeffer, technician at the Emater office in Sertão Santana, the techniques presented are fundamental for producers to achieve better results, even on small properties. “We are very grateful to partners such as SARGS and Syngenta, which was our sponsor. They were fundamental in holding this event in Sertão Santana,” he declared.
“Initiatives like this increase the quality of planting and make it possible to promote good practices among rural producers. Furthermore, participation in the State Soil and Water Conservation Program in Rio Grande do Sul reinforces the commitments made by Syngenta through our Sustainable Agriculture Plan”, explains Tiago Noronha, Public Affairs Manager at Syngenta.
“This methodology enables and reinforces exchanges between farmers and technicians, which is very beneficial for small producers”, he highlights.
