The Minas Gerais Association of Cotton Producers (Amipa) is open for registration for its Field Day, scheduled for July 4th, at the Amipa Experimental Farm, in Patos de Minas (MG). This year, the event takes on a special meaning as it celebrates the entity's 25 years of history and dedication to cotton farming in Minas Gerais. Interested parties can register until today (1/7) on the Amipa website (amipaeventos.com/).

Amipa Field Day is recognized as one of the main events in the sector and brings together producers, experts, researchers and representatives from the entire cotton production chain. With a diverse and technical program, participants will have access to lectures, guided visits to cotton planting areas (variety experimentation fields) and exhibitions of agricultural equipment, vehicles, products and services.

"In this special year, we are excited to celebrate Amipa's achievements and the continuous progress of cotton farming in Minas Gerais", says Lício Augusto Pena de Sairre, Executive Director of the company. "For 25 years, the Association has been a leading voice and driving force for the sustainable development of the sector. We look forward to sharing this legacy with all Field Day participants."

Outlook for the cotton harvest

The harvest of the current cotton crop in Brazil began with good expectations for production and quality. According to data from the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa), by June 13, 2024, 1,3% of the area had been harvested, with more than 80% of the crops maturing. The estimate is for a production of 3,5 million tons, representing an increase of 12,2% compared to the previous harvest.

During the month of May 2024, Brazil recorded a significant increase in its cotton exports, with a total volume of 229,4 thousand/t, generating revenue of US$488,5 million. These numbers represent a significant growth of 280% compared to the same period of the previous year. Furthermore, the average price per ton sold increased by 6,1% compared to 2023. This increase in exports reflects the continued global demand for Brazilian cotton, consolidating its position as one of the main players in the international market.

In Minas Gerais, the numbers recorded by Amipa, via the Georeferencing and Data operating center, also present a favorable scenario. With a planted area of 32.106 thousand/ha, total cotton fiber production is projected at 65.570,44 thousand/t, with an expected average productivity of 2.042,31 kg/ha. A significant increase of 24,21% in the planted area stands out compared to the previous harvest.

Debates, lectures and networking

In view of this scenario, during Field Day, the presence of renowned speakers, such as Antônio Cabrera Mano Filho, former Minister of Agriculture, and Dr. Fábio Rafael Echer, professor and researcher at the Universidade do Oeste Paulista (Unoeste), offers a A unique opportunity for participants to debate data and the current scenario of cotton farming, and exchange knowledge, experiences and market and technology information.

These debates and lectures stand out as moments for the dissemination of good practices, the understanding of trends in the sector and the strengthening of links between professionals in the sector. Furthermore, the networking provided by the event makes it possible to build strategic partnerships and develop innovative solutions, further boosting the progress and sustainability of cotton agribusiness in Minas Gerais and Brazil.

Solidarity

Field Day participants will have the opportunity to get involved in a charitable initiative through the "Solidarity Registration". This proposal allows interested parties to contribute to the Algobom Social Fund, an Amipa philanthropic project dedicated to supporting social and assistance initiatives in Minas Gerais.

All the amount raised will be donated to the Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional (Apae) and the Associação Anjos da Vida Huly Angel (AADV), social and essential entities for the community of Patos de Minas (MG). To be part of this movement, interested parties can contribute donations ranging from R$20,00 to R$500,00.
