Field Day in Rio Pardo will address cucumber crop management

This Wednesday (10/01), at the Apeles de Quadros Exhibition Park, in the municipality of Rio Pardo, the Field Day on cucumber cultivation takes place. The activity aims to present the results of the planting carried out on the property of farmers Reinaldo and Danubia Silveira and guide producers in the cultivation of the off-season that occurs at the beginning of the year. The Field Day is aimed at families benefiting from the Development Program and family farmers who are interested in learning about the activity and also for farmers who will plant the second-season cucumber.

Emater/RS rural extension agent, João Francisco da Silva Gomes, explains that the Silveira family obtained good results with the crop. “The main objective is to show participants the property’s accounting in relation to this production. The family built a greenhouse, invested in the structure and will still receive a return on production. With this, we want to show that it is a profitable culture,” he notes.

On the occasion, orders for seeds and materials requested by farmers who are already interested in planting the crop will also be delivered, definition of the producers who will plant the off-season and the route for delivering the production to the companies, irrigation and general matters regarding the production and marketing.

It is also planned to visit a rural property that has already started planting cucumbers for the off-season, to show in practice some of the initial management of the crop. “We also invite representatives of financial agents so that they can see how the crop can be profitable and that it can be financed for family farming, so that these families are entitled to insurance from the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming, Pronaf”, concludes Gomes.
