Russian wheat with competitive price puts pressure on the market
Wheat prices fall in PR and RS as supply exceeds demand
In 2022, Rio Grande do Sul planted wheat on 1.528.992 hectares, according to IBGE. This year's planting intention survey is underway and will be completed soon. According to Emater, favorable weather conditions allowed wheat sowing to be accelerated, especially due to adequate soil moisture and the absence of rain, favoring access for agricultural machinery.
Despite the ideal period for planting, some producers are still undecided about what to plant or the area to be cultivated, due to market uncertainties and unfavorable climate forecasts. In the administrative region of Emater de Bagé, an expansion in the wheat cultivation area is estimated compared to the last harvest. In Frederico Westphalen, the planting area should be similar to last year, with the majority of sowing taking place in June. So far, around 10% of the total area has been sown.
White oats have also proven to be a lower-cost alternative for the winter. In the Ijuí region, sowing is almost complete, and ideal soil moisture conditions have favored the activity. In the Santa Rosa region, plants are already advancing to the reproductive stage.
Canola has also taken advantage of favorable weather conditions. In some cities, such as Giruá, planting has already been completed. In general, 96% of plantations are in the vegetative development phase, and the remaining 4% are already flowering.
Soybeans, in turn, have already had their harvest technically completed. The cultivation area in the state is 6.513.891 hectares, with an estimated productivity of 1.923 kg/ha. The last harvested crops showed considerable variation in productivity.
Corn, whose cultivation area in the state is estimated at 810.380 hectares, had its harvest advanced to 97% of the cultivation area. The areas that will be destined for cultivation in the next harvest already have full development of cover crops.
