With the pre-launch of soybean and cotton cultivars, lectures and the presentation of technological solutions, Embrapa will be present at the Bahia Farm Show 2022, one of the main agribusiness fairs in the Northeast of the country. The event will be held by the Association of Farmers and Irrigantes da Bahia (Aiba) from May 31st to June 4th in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA), with advance ticket sales Online.
On June 1st (Wednesday), at 14pm, Embrapa Cerrados (DF), Embrapa Algodão (Campina Grande, PB) and Fundação Bahia promote the pre-launch of transgenic soybean cultivars BRS 8383IPRO and cotton BRS 437B2RF in the foundation's auditorium, located in the fair complex.
The BRS 8383IPRO cultivar is a variety with a medium cycle (120 to 134 days), indeterminate growth habit, with a high production ceiling and potential above 5 thousand kg/ha in the indication regions – MATOPIBA (Cerrado do Maranhão, Tocantins, do Piauí and Bahia) and Mato Grosso. In addition to production stability even in dry conditions and high temperatures, it is resistant to the root-knot nematode M. incognita, a strategic characteristic for soybean farming in Western Bahia, where the production system normally involves cotton cultivation, also affected by the nematode. It also presents tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate and expresses the Bt protein (INTACTA RR2 PRO®), which allows it to offer protection against the main caterpillars of soybean crops.
The cotton cultivar BRS 437 B2RF is recommended for sowing in opening and mid-planting, under rainfed or irrigated conditions, in the Cerrado of Bahia, Piauí, Goiás, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. The plants are late cycle and tall, being therefore recommended for cultivation in a single crop. It has Bollgard II RR Flex (B2RF) biotechnology, which gives plants resistance to some pests (lepidoptera) and tolerance to the use of the herbicide glyphosate. The cultivar stands out for its high plume and health production potential, especially in terms of resistance to ramularia spot, the main disease that affects cotton crops in the country, blue disease, bacteriosis and common mosaic, in addition to being moderately resistant to root-knot nematode. BRS 437 B2RF has high quality fiber and high productivity – production potential of 6.015 kg/ha of seed cotton and 2.425 kg/ha of lint.
Technologies in the showcase and on the stand
The two new cultivars can be seen in the showcase and at the Embrapa stand installed at the Bahia Farm Show. At the site, the BRS 8980IPRO soybean cultivar will also be presented, which, in addition to grain productivity and resistance to the main soybean diseases, presents tolerance to water deficit and production stability in the agroclimatic conditions of Western Bahia.
The transgenic cotton cultivar BRS 500 B2RF will also be announced, with high productivity and production of medium-length white fiber; resistant to caterpillars, the herbicide glyphosate and diseases such as ramularia spot and root-knot nematode. It is recommended for cultivation in commercial areas with high productivity and areas with an incidence of root-knot nematodes.
In addition, two sesame cultivars will be presented – BRS Anahí and BRS Morena. The first has superior agronomic performance compared to other cultivars in different regions of the country, high productivity and interesting characteristics for the industry, such as seeds with a clear skin, much larger than those available on the market, and adaptation to mechanized or manual harvesting. The second is a sesame cultivar with a reddish brown color, which provides a differentiated flavor for fresh consumption and for the food industry, focusing on the gourmet market.
In the Embrapa space, information will also be made available in the form of videos and leaflets on various technologies, such as the most recent soybean cultivars, forage cultivars for the Cerrado, Soil Bioanalysis (BioAS), the irrigated wheat cultivar BRS 394 , the sweet passion fruit cultivar BRS Mel do Cerrado, biological pest control, guidance on corn stunting, as well as the pages Espaço do Produtor and Espaço da Criança and the apps Zarc - Plantio Certo, Agropragas Maracujá and Pasto Certo.
Lectures
Two lectures by Embrapa researchers are part of the Bahia Farm Show 2022 program.
On June 2nd (Thursday), from 10am to 11am, the deputy head of research and development at Embrapa Cerrados (DF), Lineu Rodrigues, presents the theme “Efficiency and sustainability in the production process”. 14pm to 15:30pm, Álvaro Resende, researcher at Embrapa Milho e Sorgo (Sete Lagoas, MG), will give the talk “Is it viable to produce with reduced fertilization?” The presentations will be held in the Fundação Bahia auditorium.
