Pirated seeds cause losses of R$ 10 billion per year in Brazil.
The use of illegal materials reduces productivity and generates losses for the seed market.
Embrapa will be showcasing four new products at the 49th Expointer, which will be presented in the Arena Space of the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa), Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA), Embrapa, and the National Supply Company (Conab), in the International Pavilion. The launch ceremony is scheduled for September 3rd at 11:00 AM and will be attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, André de Paula, and the Executive Director of Research & Innovation at Embrapa, Clenio Pillon.
The company is participating in the fair, which takes place at the Assis Brasil State Exhibition Park in Esteio (RS), with launches, technologies, publications and activities focused on different agricultural production chains. Embrapa's full participation can be found on the website www.embrapa.br/clima-temperado.
Among the new releases is the BRS Áurea pear, the first pear cultivar developed by Embrapa Uva e Vinho (RS). This cultivar stands out for its fruit quality, good productivity, and early production and harvest. BRS Áurea combines advantages such as early entry into production, tolerance to the main diseases and pests of the crop, and good productivity, expanding the options for Brazilian pear production.
Another new feature is the presentation of improved versions of two tools focused on yerba mate cultivation, developed by Embrapa Florestas (PR). FertiMatte and ManejoMatte will be demonstrated on September 2nd, at 14 pm, at the Emater/RS Institutional House.
Furthermore, yerba mate will have a special space, with tea tastings, a presentation of the Erva20 production system, cultivars developed by Embrapa, and research exploring possibilities for using the crop "beyond the gourd," including films for packaging, capsules, utilization of industrial waste, and a "dictionary" for sensory characterization of teas.
The digital book “Blackberry: history, management and production technologies”, from Embrapa Clima Temperado, will also be launched during the event. The publication compiles and systematizes more than 50 years of research by the company on blackberry cultivation in Brazil.
This work brings together knowledge about genetic improvement, cultivars, production and management, as well as information on pests, diseases, post-harvest, processing, and nutritional and socio-environmental aspects.
In addition to new product launches, Embrapa's institutional booth will showcase technologies, cultivars, and publications focused on the recovery and resilience of production systems, the production of vegetables, grains and fruits, livestock farming, forestry, and agroforestry systems.
Among the content related to the recovery and resilience of production systems will be the publication "Diagnosis and proposals to mitigate the risks of extreme rainfall in the Serra Gaúcha region," the publication on the assessment of the physical-chemical and microbiological quality of groundwater in municipalities of the Taquari-Antas and Baixo Jacuí-RS river basins impacted by the climatic event that occurred in May 2024, the Technical Note "Mitigation of the effects of El Niño 2026/2027 on agriculture in the Southern Region of Brazil," and the publication "Zarc – Climate Risk Management in Agriculture," accompanied by an augmented reality cube of the Agricultural Zoning of Climate Risk.
During the launch ceremony, Embrapa and the Brazilian Tobacco Growers Association (Afubra) will sign a technical cooperation agreement for innovation and technology transfer initiatives. Scheduled to last until April 2030, the partnership aims to bring research-developed solutions closer to the needs of the production sector.
At the Embrapa booth, the public will be able to learn about cultivars and technologies for different production chains, as well as solutions for livestock farming, such as the AgroPecuaria.io Simulator, the Pasture over Pasture system, the Integrated Pasture Recovery Method (Mirapasto), and Forage Planning.
In the area of forestry and agroforestry systems, the highlight is the Araucaria tree with early pine nut production, developed by Embrapa Florestas. Through grafting techniques, the technology halves the production time compared to native plants and expands the possibilities for cultivating the species. Visitors will also be able to participate in an immersive experience on crop-livestock-forestry integration using virtual reality glasses. In addition, the stand will showcase forest restoration models, information for eucalyptus cultivation, and the AmazonSaf spreadsheet for planning, evaluating, and analyzing the financial viability of agroforestry systems.
Another highlight will be the 2nd BRS Lorena Wine Selection, promoted by Embrapa Uva e Vinho and Consevitis-RS. The initiative seeks to stimulate the improvement of the quality of products made with this cultivar, expand market opportunities, and enhance the value of participating wineries. The samples are evaluated blindly by experts and can receive Silver, Gold, and Grand Gold Medals.
