Embrapa published today the Notice for the selection of seed producers eligible to establish a strategic partnership, through a Technical and Financial Cooperation Agreement. The joint work aims to finalize the technological development and promote the launch on the market of four cultivars of common black beans.
Two cultivars have already been pre-selected by Embrapa's breeding program and another two will be defined in partnership with producers approved in the Notice, who will have exclusivity to exploit them commercially for a period of 10 years.
The prospects of this joint work are that materials with great potential to become market leaders will be launched. The cultivars and lineages made available have highly desired agronomic and grain quality characteristics, according to current standards. Among the main highlights are: high productivity, broad adaptation to different production systems, resistance to major diseases, precocity and high commercial and culinary quality of grains.
Embrapa believes that this pioneering initiative in black beans in Brazil could generate great opportunities for everyone involved in this production chain, bringing together its different links in a complementary and synergistic way.
