Embrapa Roraima, in partnership with Embrapa Western Amazon, approved a project in the Call “Embrapa/Coffee Research Consortium No. 22/2024 - Research, Development and Innovation in Coffee Growing”. This is the first research project approved for Roraima and Amazonas, marking the entry of the states into the Brazilian Coffee Research and Development Consortium.

The leadership is led by the researcher from Embrapa Roraima, Cássia Ângela Pedrozo, but it has the direct participation of other researchers and analysts from Embrapa Roraima and Embrapa Amazônia Ocidental, as well as the collaboration of researchers from Embrapa Café and partner companies.

The project entitled “Reduction of negative impacts caused by thermal stress in the cultivation of Coffea canephora, through the selection of clones adapted to the climatic conditions of the northern Western Amazon” will begin in January 2025 and last 48 months.

The research aims to develop studies that support the validation of clonal varieties of canephora coffee for the edaphoclimatic conditions of Amazonas and the cerrado of Roraima, as well as to transfer management technologies already consolidated for the crop. The main results proposed are the extension of the recommendation of clonal varieties for cultivation in the two component states and the training and technological updating of multiplier agents, regarding crop management.

It is expected that the information and results generated through the development of research and technology transfer activities can contribute to the sustainable and conscious development of coffee farming in the northern part of the Western Amazon.
