Embrapa Hortaliças presents pepper varieties at Tecnoshow Comigo 2016

Confirmed for the period from April 11th to 15th, in Rio Verde (GO), the 15th edition of TECNOSHOW COMIGO, the largest rural technology fair in the Center-West, will bring together more than 540 exhibitors, who will present technological innovations in various areas . Among the institutions that will participate in the fair is Embrapa Hortaliças, which this year will bring to the COMIGO Technological Center (CTC) innovations in pepper materials BRS Seriema, BRS Moema and BRS Mari.

The BRS Seriema variety is a cultivar belonging to the varietal group popularly known as 'bode' (Capsicum chinense) which, in addition to being very aromatic and spicy, has good productivity and small fruits, suitable for processing into preserves. BRS Moema belongs to the varietal group known as 'biquinho' and its main characteristic is the absence of pungency. It also has potential for both the fresh fruit market and the processing of preserves for appetizers and jellies, as its fruits are aromatic, crunchy, tasty and serve consumers who cannot 'eat' hot peppers.

BRS Mari is a 'girl's finger' pepper cultivar, which has fruits with high pungency, high productivity and excellent plant and fruit uniformity. It can be used for fresh consumption and processing in the form of liquid sauces, as well as dehydrated in flakes with the seeds (Calabrian pepper). "At these events, we try to bring the most demanded technologies, such as peppers, and those that qualify as 'success stories', such as the Mobile Shading Unit (UMS), a simple, low-cost structure that helps with maintenance of the quality of the harvested product", explains Embrapa Hortaliças supervisor, Flávia Clemente.

It is characterized by a simple, low-cost, light and detachable metal structure, with a canvas cover, which must be placed close to the crop so that the vegetables can be removed under shade immediately after harvest. Its use aims to maintain the quality and prolong the durability of vegetables by protecting them from direct exposure to the sun, in addition to promoting a more comfortable working environment for rural producers and their employees.

According to information from Embrapa Hortaliças, the size of the structure can be adjusted to the production volume by attaching additional modules. The product was launched in 2014, and is not commercial in nature. As it is a low-cost technology, the proposal is that the Mobile Shading Unit is built by the producer himself and adapted according to each reality.
