The formalization of the partnership will allow the beginning of research and technology transfer actions aimed at the soybean production system in the state.

According to Giovani Faé, head of Technology Transfer at Embrapa Trigo, the agreement foresees a series of activities, such as regional forums, evaluation of cultivars and “on-farm” research, where the generation of knowledge relies on the direct participation of producers and technical assistance on properties.

“Preliminarily, topics for research and transfer in genetics, soil management, fertilization, phytotechnical adjustment, bioinputs and crop diversification have already been raised. But the idea is to rely on the producer and the property's agronomist to define priorities, acting as multipliers of results in the region”, explains Faé.

Once the properties are indicated by Aprosoja-RS, seven technological reference units will be installed in Alegrete, Bagé, Tapes, Santiago, Giruá, Cruz Alta and Lagoa Vermelha. Actions should begin shortly after the soybean harvest, with planning for the next two years.

“The best summer harvest starts in winter”, says Jorge Lemainski, general manager of Embrapa Trigo. According to him, good soil coverage and the supply of roots generated by winter cereals will reflect on soybean productivity in the summer: “Studies by Embrapa Soja showed that the cultivation of wheat in winter can result in an increase of more than 50% in soybean productivity in relation to fallow”.

Lemainski also highlights the objectives of Embrapa Trigo's partnership with Aprosoja-RS: “This partnership will make the technologies developed by science really happen in the field, with the producer's appropriate knowledge and technical assistance for more efficient management in crops, resulting in more income and less risks in soybean production”.

Décio Teixeira, president of Aprosoja-RS, notes that producers are motivated by the partnership: “The expectation is to evaluate the technologies together with the associated producers. Verifying results on properties will enable greater security in investments and expand the potential of Rio Grande do Sul’s crops”, concludes Teixeira.
