Embrapa Arroz e Feijão will launch the BRS FS313 during the Coopavel Rural Show, which takes place in Cascavel-Paraná, between the 05th and 09th of February. With high productivity, the new variety of special grains was developed by the Bean Improvement Program of the research center, in Santo Antônio de Goiás. The lineage of origin was approved in trials relating to the development process of common bean cultivars, highlighting It is also due to the size and uniformity of grains, good culinary qualities and favored exports.

With a productive potential of 3.200 kg/ha, obtained from the average of the five experiments in which it had the highest productivity, BRS FS313 presents resistance to anthracnose and root rot and moderate resistance to fusarium wilt and rust. With a semi-early cycle (75 to 84 days), the new cultivar has a semi-erect plant architecture and intermediate resistance to lodging, being adapted to mechanical harvesting, offering the possibility of insertion in Agroecological Systems.

The main target audience for special jalo-type grains is small producers, with a business model based on short-chain marketing. However, due to the size of the grains, BRS FS313 has been seen as an opportunity for expansion in the national and international market. The performance of the new cultivar recommends it for the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, during the rainy season; for Goiás, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and the Federal District, during the rainy, dry and winter seasons; and to Bahia and Maranhão, during the rainy and winter seasons.

Brazil occupies a prominent place on the world stage as one of the largest producers of common beans, a product considered to be of great economic and social relevance and an important source of protein in the diet of the Brazilian population. The new cultivar could contribute to increased sustainability in agricultural production, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture (SDG 2) and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12). The production of basic seeds to be made available to producers is the responsibility of Embrapa and partners selected via public technical cooperation notices.
