The National Rural Learning Service (Senar), Embrapa Meio Ambiente and the Brazilian Association of Bee Studies (ABELHA) launched the EaD Meliponiculture course. Lasting 20 hours, the free online training is aimed at meliponists, rural workers and their families who want to start or improve on the subject in order to be successful in the activity. Enrollment is open on the Senar Play platform, which can be accessed in the web version via the Senar website (ead.senar.org.br/matriculas-abertas) or via the Senar Play app, available in stores for IOS and Android devices.

Participants will have access to information about the general biology of stingless bees, which is important for the development of the activity; how to start meliponiculture; breeding and management of stingless bees; and aspects related to the health of stingless bees. At the end of the course, students will have access to a certificate.

The partnership between the institutions, signed in 2022, has already made other distance learning courses available free of charge on capturing stingless bees and productive management in beekeeping. In addition, a booklet on installing a meliponary and videos on beekeeping and meliponiculture are available. These materials can also be accessed on the Senar Play platform or app.
