The long drought faced in some regions of Paraná accelerated the coffee harvest, which, in some places, has already been completed. With more scarce labor, the remaining areas continue with manual harvesting. The quality of the coffee was also affected. The 2nd corn harvest is approaching completion, and yields continue to be below average. This is what the Weather and Cultivation Conditions bulletin from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of Paraná indicates, for the period from July 30th to August 5th.

In the 2nd harvest potato crop, the harvest continues, and the production obtained must be destined for seed. While wheat continues to be the majority of crops in fruiting, and some specific areas have already started to be harvested, but with low productivity. The lack of heavy rain for almost 25 days has affected crops with low soil moisture. And in some regions, the incidence of diseases and aphids has worried producers, who continue to manage them with cultural treatments and the application of insecticides and urea.

In strawberry production, producers are investing in technologies to boost productivity, using greenhouses with elevated planting on benches. The technique allows you to harvest more than 1,0 kg of strawberries per plant, reducing the necessary planting area.

Irrigated rice producers continue with soil preparation and planting of areas cultivated with pre-germinated rice, a process that should intensify next month. Soybean sales continue to be slow, with producers waiting for better prices for the product.

The dry climate in the Southwest region has favored the emergence of fires of various types in rural areas, on the sides of highways and in urban surroundings, causing environmental damage and affecting air quality. While the rivers and dams remained stable, without significant changes.
