XIII Summer Workshop on Genetics and Plant Breeding
Activity discusses advances and technologies in genetics and plant improvement programs
“Even though they are aware of the demand for a greater volume of food, consumers are increasingly interested in the quality of what they serve at the table.” With this statement, Aurélio Pavinato, CEO of SLC Agrícola, began his presentation on the panel Digital Solutions for Profitability, part of the program for the second day of One Agro, an event promoted by Syngenta, in Campinas. The executive clearly explained the gains achieved through digital solutions applied to agriculture, not only in terms of profitability, but also in terms of enabling production that seeks to meet society's desires.
To rationalize the application of agricultural pesticides, SLC - one of the leaders in the Brazilian agricultural market, which concentrates over 400 thousand hectares of soybeans, cotton and corn - adopted specific technologies, such as, for example, Protector, developed by Strider. It is a tablet with easy commands to help field workers identify areas where there is a pest infestation. Through georeferenced monitoring, the system generates a heat map with the exact location of infestation hotspots. Thus, the producer can react on the same day, avoiding losses and carrying out localized application, which involves the use of pesticides only where necessary. Through this technique, SLC guaranteed savings of 37% on inputs and logistics costs.
A member of the same panel, Fernando Degobbi, CEO of Coopercitrus, discussed the importance of enabling small and medium-sized farmers to access available technologies. The executive also presented the significant productivity gains achieved through the use of systematization in coffee farming and discussed the agility in decision-making resulting from crop monitoring using images, another example of a digital solution that has increasingly gained space in Brazilian fields. .
In an enthusiastic speech, Paul Bonnett, global manager of digital agronomy at Syngenta, was proud to “be part of one of the most collaborative companies in agribusiness, which understands its important role not only in developing digital solutions, but in which refers to identifying other multinationals around the world that understand the importance of investing in this journey of digital agriculture”. The panel was moderated by Cristiano Kruel, Head of Innovation at Start Se, a company committed to connecting and promoting the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem of startups in Brazil and around the world.
