The difficulty in disposing of the harvested corn, especially in Mato Grosso, which is still ahead of schedule in the safrinha harvest, could influence a general reduction in the pace of work, with the purpose of waiting for the flow to the domestic and foreign markets, according to an analysis by Malu Fernandes, from Tarken, a Brazilian agritech that offers a marketplace for grain trading.
“There is harvest pressure and space difficulties in Mato Grosso, lowering grain prices. The main values quoted for corn today are: R$67,18 in Canarana, R$70,77 in Nobres, R$72,35 in Rondonópolis and R$69 in União do Sul”, says Malu. “The high freight prices do not allow the rapid flow of corn from the state to others. Estimates of planted area and productivity have remained unchanged so far in Mato Grosso. With around 57% of corn areas harvested to date, productivity has remained at 55 bags per hectare, a value within the state average”, he adds.
According to the analyst, this number could drop significantly when late planting areas, affected by water scarcity, begin to be harvested.
There were few negotiations reported last week in the state. Last Thursday (30/06), the day the USDA report was released, the Chicago Stock Exchange fell, prices at ports fell, and negotiations were halted. . “For this first week of July, the market also has no business flow and prices are tending to big drops throughout the week, getting closer and closer to R$62”, predicts Malu.
