Precautions when operating agricultural machinery
Observing safety recommendations during operations involving agricultural machinery can reduce the risk of accidents, which are often fatal.
Brazilian Coffee exports, in the first five months of 2020, reached a physical volume corresponding to approximately 16,57 million bags and foreign exchange revenue of US$2,2 billion, at an average price of US$133,06 per bag of 60kg. Of this physical volume, green Arabica coffees, with 13,43 million bags exported, corresponded to 81%, and Robusta coffees, with 1,49 million bags, around 8,9%. In relation to industrialized coffees, soluble coffees accounted for 9,8% of the volume, with 1,63 million bags, while roasted and ground coffees, which exported just 8,34 thousand bags, accounted for less than 1% of the volume total.
In this same context, specifically in relation to the performance of coffee exports in the month of May of this year 2020, the total physical volume sold to importing countries equivalent to 60kg bags, for all types of coffee described previously (green, soluble and roasted & ground), was 2,97 million bags. And the foreign exchange revenue generated that month, with these exports, was US$ 370,7 million, with an average price per bag at US$ 124,44, an amount that represented an increase of 5,2% compared to May 2019 .
Regarding the performance of exports from the coffee sector, only in the month of May 2020, it should be noted that conilon (robusta) coffee showed a growth in sales of 4,7%, compared to the same month last year, with 484,1 thousand bags sold, a volume that corresponds to 16,3% of the share of exports by variety. And, regarding Arabica coffee, such sales represented 73,8% of the total volume of coffee exported that month, with 2,2 million bags sold to importers, a number that represented a significant drop of 27,3% compared to the performance of the same month in 2019. Finally, it should be noted that sales of soluble coffee represented 9,9% of exports, with the equivalent of 296,1 thousand 60kg bags.
According to data from the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council – Cecafe, in accordance with what is stated in your Monthly report – May 2020, which is the subject of this analysis by Embrapa Coffee, it is also worth highlighting that, in the first five months of this year, 2,66 million 60kg bags of differentiated coffees were exported from the previously mentioned total volume of Cafés do Brasil, which are considered and evaluated, therefore, for having quality higher education or some type of sustainable practices certificate. The Report is available in full at Coffee Observatory, from Coffee Research Consortium coordinated by Embrapa Café.
Therefore, exports of differentiated coffees deserve to be highlighted, as they represented 16,1% of the total physical volume exported in the period and, in addition, generated foreign exchange revenue of US$ 455,4 million, which corresponded to 20,7 % of the total generated with the values of these sales in the period in focus. And, it is also worth highlighting that the average price of a bag of differentiated coffee reached the equivalent of US$ 171,04 in the same period. Another point that also deserves highlighting is that the ten largest importing countries of differentiated coffees acquired around 78,7% of these Brazilian exports, in the period from January to May this year.
Thus, according to the ranking of the ten importing countries of differentiated coffees, according to the Monthly report – May 2020, the USA comes first, which continues to be the country that most imports this type of coffee from Brazil, with the acquisition of 498,5 thousand 60kg bags in the first five months of this year, a volume equivalent to 18,7% of exports of this coffee with higher added value. It is worth remembering that the USA is the largest consumer of coffee worldwide.
In second place, Germany stands out, with 359,9 thousand bags imported (13,5%), and, in third, Belgium, with 324,6 thousand bags (12,2%). Continuing this ranking in descending order, come the following countries: Japan, with 261,8 thousand (9,8%); Italy, with 201,8 thousand (7,6%); United Kingdom, with 111,6 thousand (4,2%); Spain, with 109,2 thousand bags (4,1%); Sweden, with 80,6 thousand bags (3,0%); Canada, with 76 thousand bags (2,9%); and, finally, in tenth position, comes South Korea, which imported the equivalent of 70,9 thousand bags of differentiated coffees, which corresponds to 2,7%.
