International Agricultural Surveillance Service prevented 392 live pests from entering Brazil
This was the result of joint operations on the border of Foz do Iguaçu (PR) with Paraguay, presented last Friday (2/7)
Wheat harvesting has already begun in parts of the Center-West and Southeast and, soon, farmers from other areas of the country will begin this process. The guideline, at this stage of the crop, is to desiccate the plants to standardize the maturation of the grains and better schedule the harvesting of wheat, and also of barley, says Lenisson Carvalho, marketing manager for large crops at Ourofino Agrociência.
According to the expert, the pre-harvest technique, in addition to standardizing, can anticipate the harvest stage itself. In these cases, it is recommended to begin desiccating wheat and barley at physiological maturity. In addition to the benefits in uniformity and lower grain moisture for harvesting, desiccation allows “obtaining greater grain weight, better pH and, as a consequence, greater productivity and product quality, essential characteristics for better crop profitability”. Among the solutions delivered to the market by Ourofino Agrociência, the Off Road® product is recommended for this management.
According to Carvalho, in addition to the quality ingredients used in the formulation, it is a herbicide that offers safe applications and operational performance; It is also suitable for managing difficult-to-control weeds. In this way, it contributes to increasing the productive potential of the crop.
Wheat and barley, despite requiring milder temperatures, between 15º and 20º, and wetter regions to thrive, are good alternative crops for farmers to invest in in the winter. In the case of wheat, the country already has an area of 2,53 million hectares, according to forecasts for this harvest made by the National Supply Company (Conab), and can account for 2.744 kilos per hectare in terms of productivity. Ourofino Agrociência specialist gives tips for those interested in investing in cultivars.
One of the issues he addresses is soil care. “Fertilization must be balanced for better crop production. Supplementation with nitrogen fertilizers is also recommended”, points out Carvalho.
Furthermore, during the plant's development, another point of attention is the regulation of growth. “With the use of regulatory products it is possible to reduce plant lodging – a condition in which there is great growth in height and causes them to tip over, forming a type of bed that harms the harvest and leads to a reduction in grain productivity and quality.”
Still on the application of growth regulators, Carvalho explains that the “practice is recommended for larger cultivars and regions with high plant growth potential, conditions that favor lodging”. To prevent the problem, Ourofino Agrociência has Trix, a growth regulator launched last year, the first in the company's segment.
