Crop Report indicates high corn yield in SC

The Midwest region of Santa Catarina is heading towards a high-yield corn harvest. Preliminary data from the 2025/26 Crop Report indicate an average productivity of 204,1 sacks per hectare in the region, with Irani standing out, reaching 234 sacks/ha — the highest yield recorded so far.

The figures were presented at the last stage of the third edition of the Crop Tour, held in Campos Novos, on Wednesday (25). So far, 63 crops have been evaluated, out of a total of 82 rural properties planned.

Besides Irani, other municipalities also recorded yields above the regional average. Joaçaba reached 220 sc/ha, Concórdia 218 sc/ha, Campos Novos 215 sc/ha, Luzerna 214 sc/ha and Ibicaré 213 sc/ha. Among the others, yields ranged from 203 sc/ha in Jaborá to 177 sc/ha in Seara and Erval Velho.

According to Eduardo Briese Neujahr, an extension agent at Epagri in Campos Novos, the differences in productivity are mainly associated with the management practices adopted and the climatic conditions, especially the regularity of rainfall. According to him, areas with better performance follow more precise technical standards, such as adequate spacing between plants and balanced fertilization, ensuring greater uniformity in crop development.

The initiative is conducted by Epagri/Cepa in partnership with Sicoob SC/RS and aims to gather technical information directly from the field. The data supports producers' decision-making, as well as guiding rural credit and the planning of strategic actions for agribusiness in Santa Catarina.

According to Epagri's president, Dirceu Leite, the results reflect the importance of technical monitoring. He stated that the Crop Tour allows for a more realistic assessment of production by directly evaluating crops, contributing to management adjustments and the formulation of public policies aimed at the sector.

Sicoob SC/RS is also participating in the initiative. According to the cooperative's Agribusiness Manager, Paulo Vitor Sangaletti, the fieldwork reinforces the close relationship with producers and the importance of corn to the state's economy, especially as a basis for animal protein chains.

Monitoring tool

The Crop Tour has established itself as one of the main tools for technical monitoring of corn production in Santa Catarina. The first stage of this edition took place in February in São Miguel do Oeste, and already indicated an average productivity of over 200 sc/ha in the state.

During the visits, technical teams evaluate the crops on-site and send samples for analysis at the Campos Novos Experimental Station. The survey considers indicators such as moisture and grain quantity, as well as information on soil management, planting conditions, compaction, and cultivars used.

According to Dilvan Luiz Ferrari, manager of Epagri/Cepa, corn plays a strategic role in Santa Catarina because it sustains supply chains such as meat, milk, and eggs. He emphasizes that monitoring productivity contributes to increasing the efficiency and safety of the entire production chain.
