The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming (MDA) will begin making payments for the Garantia-Safra for the 2023/2024 harvest this Tuesday, March 18. In total, 744 municipalities will benefit from R$670 million allocated to 558.686 thousand farmers throughout Brazil.

The policy, aimed at producers with a monthly income of up to 1,5 minimum wages whose planted area varies between 0,6 and 5 hectares of beans, corn, rice, cotton or cassava, supports family farmers who have suffered losses due to adverse climate events, such as droughts and heavy rains, ensuring economic security and the continuity of production in the field.

The benefit is granted to farmers and municipalities that have joined the program, when there is proof of losses of at least 50% of production due to climate factors. The secretary of SAF/MDA, Vanderley Ziger, highlights the importance of the program in mitigating the impacts of climate vulnerability faced by thousands of families, ensuring better conditions for planning rural production. "The Garantia-Safra is an essential policy that offers support to thousands of farmers who produce the food that reaches our tables. In addition to reducing the impacts of losses caused by adverse climate conditions, the program contributes to the permanence of families in the countryside and to the sustainability of agricultural production", he states.

Regularization

Farmers who have joined Garantia-Safra and whose benefit payments were preventively blocked may present a defense against the blockage through the service Request Defense Request after blocking of Garantia-Safra Benefit.

Defenses may be presented within 60 days from March 18, 2025, as per the deadline set forth in MDA Ordinance No. 03, of April 03, 2023. The reasons for the blocks can be consulted by accessing the beneficiary's profile in the Garantia-Safra Management System.

The full list of municipalities is available in Ordinance No. 319 of March 14, 2025. Payment of Garantia-Safra follows the social benefits payment schedule and will be deposited into a Caixa Econômica Federal Digital Savings Account. More information about Garantia-Safra can be requested from the MDA Secretariat of Family Agriculture and Agroecology by email at Garantiasafra.cgs@mda.gov.br or by phone at (61) 3218-3319.
