Cras Agro has signed an agreement with Syngenta to treat its peanut seeds. According to the companies, the partnership aims to offer seeds with a higher quality standard, focusing on greater protection and efficiency in cultivation, through the use of fungicides, insecticides, rooting agents and graphite.

Cras Brasil CEO Rodrigo Chitarelli highlights the relevance of the partnership: “Syngenta is one of the leading companies in the sector and has some of the best products for this process. With them, we have found the opportunity to further improve the quality of our seeds.”

Seed treatment process

After the threshing process, the peanut seeds are treated in batches of 15 to 30 tons, separated by variety, with the help of machinery provided by Syngenta. The system integrates the treatment with the necessary products and performs the mixing and precise application of the components in each batch.

Varieties developed by the Agronomic Institute (IAC) and Embrapa are included. Among them are IAC 503, IAC 505, BRS 423 OL and BRS 425 OL, which are recognized for their quality and adaptability to the Brazilian climate and soil.

After treatment, the seeds go through the certification phase, where germination and vigor tests are carried out to guarantee the quality of each batch. Certification is crucial to ensure that the seeds meet legal requirements and that the farmer receives a high-performance product for cultivation.

Seed production and destination

In this cycle, approximately 600 tons of seeds are being treated. Of these, 500 tons will be sold for grain production and another 100 tons for multiplication, with another 10 tons coming from new seeds developed in partnership with IAC and Embrapa.

Syngenta's regional sales manager, Gerhard Ecker, reinforces the importance of seed treatment for agribusiness: “among the innovations that provide a new level of productivity, Syngenta seed treatment is a crucial strategy for extracting the maximum productive potential of peanut crops”.
