Corteva has announced an agreement with Pairwise to accelerate the delivery of advanced gene editing solutions for farmers. Gene editing technology enables precise modifications to plant DNA, providing an essential tool for addressing food production challenges.

As part of the deal, Corteva has invested $25 million in Pairwise through the Corteva Catalyst program, its new investment and partnership platform focused on agricultural innovation. The investment aims to expand the reach of gene editing to a variety of staple and specialty crops, bringing benefits to food production and sustainability.

In addition to the financial contribution, the companies formed a five-year joint venture with the aim of accelerating the development of gene editing technologies. The idea is to increase agricultural productivity for the production of food, fuel and fiber, even in the face of increasing climate adversities.

This collaboration builds on Corteva’s history in genetic improvement and leverages both companies’ advanced gene editing capabilities. The goal is to develop crops that are more resilient to extreme weather events, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change on global agriculture.

Sam Eathington, Chief Technology and Digital Officer at Corteva, highlighted the importance of technology for the future of agriculture. He said gene editing is a transformative tool that can increase climate resilience in agricultural production and contribute to feeding the world’s growing population. He noted that the collaboration with Pairwise will benefit both farmers and consumers who rely on sustainable and affordable food.

Tom Adams, CEO and co-founder of Pairwise, highlighted the revolutionary role of gene editing in agriculture. He highlighted that the technology will enable the cultivation of plants that are more adaptable to climate change and more nutritious for consumers. Pairwise’s Fulcrum platform, which includes proprietary gene editing tools, enables precise adjustments to plant traits, accelerating the development of distinctive and highly productive varieties.
