Corteva Agriscience, in partnership with the Brazilian Sugarcane Producers Association (Orplana) and Fundação Dom Cabral, held the graduation of the first class of the Agribusiness Succession Academy in April. The initiative, with the purpose of contributing to the training of 100 young people from business families in the sugarcane sector, helping them in the family succession process, took place over the last eight months.

From September 2021 to April 2022, students participated in online classes through the Fundação Dom Cabral teaching platform, with an intense program, covering the themes: economy, family succession, digital agriculture, people management, political scenario and sustainability. During the meetings, participants had the opportunity to interact with different agribusiness experts, including the CEO of Canaplan and President of ABAG (Brazilian Agribusiness Association), Caio Carvalho, who presented the scenario of supply, demand and the impacts of geopolitics in the sector, at the last class meeting.

The first edition of the Agro Succession Academy included children of producers associated with Orplana, who already work on the family property. In the project, they took part in various training courses to take over the family business, becoming successors and ensuring the continuity of sugarcane production and, consequently, the sugar-energy sector.

Second class

Family succession in the sugarcane sector is a major challenge, and relevant and updated knowledge supports this process and the progress of future generations. “For this reason, Corteva has invested in training and debates with the agricultural chain and is already preparing the second class of the Agribusiness Succession Academy, with partners. The initiative will take place in the second semester, following the eight-month schedule”, highlights Redson Vieira, Sugarcane Leader at Corteva.
