Planting continued and reached 70% of the projected corn area, which is 817.521 hectares in Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The majority of crops are in the germination and vegetative development stage (99%); 1% entered the reproductive period. According to Emater/RS, the period was marked by a greater incidence of sunlight, favoring the rapid growth and vigorous development of plants. Many producers took advantage of the period to apply nitrogen fertilizers. And herbicides for weed control.

In the Frederico Westphalen region, of the 80 thousand hectares, 87% are in the germination and vegetative development phase, and 13% in flowering. The development of the crop is satisfactory, benefiting from favorable climatic conditions. However, in isolated points, the occurrence of high rainfall with strong winds and hail caused lodging in the crop. In Passo Fundo, planting has expanded to 95% of the areas destined for the grain, and the crop is undergoing vegetative development. The area is 73 thousand hectares.

Evolution of soybeans

Some regions established soybean areas during the week. Further south of the state, the operation advanced significantly, due to favorable soil conditions. In the North, implementation was carried out at times when the weather was most suitable for planting crops. Producers prepare the areas. The initial area estimate for the 2023/2024 harvest is 6.745.112 planted hectares and productivity, 3.327 kg/ha.

First harvest beans

The crops are in the process of being implemented and sowing is about to be completed in the Medium Plateau, with lower rates in the Central and Southern regions of the state. In the Campos de Cima da Serra areas, sowing should only start in December. Around Vacaria, sowing usually takes place in December and early January. In Erechim, 902 hectares of the planted area are in a vegetative state.

In the Santa Maria region, planting of 1st crop beans exceeded 70% of the planned area of 1.373 hectares. In Soledade, crop development is not satisfactory due to the restriction of solar radiation. Cultural treatments are carried out, such as nitrogen fertilization and fungicide applications. Regarding pests, the incidence is low. The sown area is 90%.

Rice situation

Planting advanced where it was possible to enter crops. In the Campaign, South and Central regions, some areas were implemented. On the Western Border, the operation was hampered by rain and flooding. In the administrative region of Emater/RS de Bagé, the high volume of rain on the Western Border already causes direct losses to rice producers, such as flooding of crops due to the flood of rivers, mainly the Uruguay River, and indirect losses, such as delays in the processing process. seeding. The areas most affected by the flood are located in São Borja and Itaqui.

In Uruguaiana, many producers avoided planting crops more susceptible to flooding, leaving it until November or even selecting other cuts in areas further away from watercourses and with more undulating terrain, which would not be cultivated in this harvest. Planting has already exceeded 65% in the Western Border, but it is not yet possible to determine how much of this area will have to be replanted.

In the Pelotas region, due to the significant improvement in soil moisture, it was possible to continue the sowing of irrigated rice, as there was movement of agricultural machines and implements in the fields. However, there is a delay in the operation when compared to the previous harvest in the same period. From 08 to 14/10, sunny days, without rain, and mild and warm temperatures favored good drainage and the drying of water in the soils of these crops. If the weather permits, and there is no rain in the coming weeks, planting should advance significantly in the region, making up for the delay in sowing.
