ABR-LOG event mobilizes logistics companies in Santos (SP)
The meeting was held to boost terminals' adherence to the ABR-LOG program, which aims to improve logistical processes in the cotton production chain
The advancement of the harvest of crops that are already in the maturation stage, especially those grown in the 2nd harvest, such as corn, and the increase in soybean shipments, either due to the improvement in oilseed prices, unlocking commercialization, or even due to the increase in demand for grain or the need to free up space in warehouses, they influenced the demand for the transport service, resulting in an increase in prices in important producing states, such as Mato Grosso. The data is in the June edition of the Logistics Bulletin, published by the National Supply Company (Conab).
On the routes of the largest grain producing state, Conab observed an increase in freight rates on most of them. Demand for trucks was quite high, given the more intense pace of loading to free up space in warehouses at a time of improved soybean prices. “For June, the trend would be for the market to heat up and prices to rise, given the seasonality of the road freight market, as the harvest brings about a tighter relationship between supply and demand for transport. However, it is possible that the price conditions for corn could influence this market, reducing the pressure on demand for the transportation of products”, analyzes the superintendent of Operational Logistics at Conab, Thomé Guth.
An increase was also seen for freight carried in Minas Gerais. In the state of Minas Gerais, the intensification of the coffee harvest is one of the main factors for the increase. In Maranhão, Piauí, Goiás, Paraná and Bahia, prices on most routes increased in the last month.
In São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, prices remained close to stability with slight increases. In the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the losses caused in second-crop corn and wheat due to drought and poor distribution of rain resulted in greater availability of vehicles and lower demand for transport services during the period. On the other hand, the sale of soybeans has shown a reaction in the regional market in recent months due to the greater demand for the product for export and positive premiums in the ports used. In São Paulo, the Conab bulletin points out that with the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul and the slower commercialization of corn and soybean crops, the freight market showed a stable behavior with a slight increase in relation to the previous month.
In the Federal District, the scenario was a decline in most of the areas surveyed, with emphasis on the Uberaba and Araguari routes, in Minas Gerais, Santos/SP and Imbituba/SC, with average declines of around 8%. The reductions in prices were mainly motivated by lower demand, primarily for soybeans and corn. Another factor that kept freight rates falling was the behavior of the average price of diesel, an item that makes up the largest portion of freight and has maintained its value with little variation.
Corn shipments in May/24 reached 0,42 million tons compared to 0,07 million, observed last month and 0,47 million in the same period of 2023. From January to May this year, they have already been sent to the international market 7,5 million tons. Of this total, 45,3% were shipped through Arco Norte ports.
Soy exports reached 13,47 million tons in May, compared to 14,7 million in the previous month – a decrease of 8,3%, reversing a record movement observed in that month. The soy market has shown variations influenced by several global and regional factors. In the first five months of this year, 50,2 million tons were exported, 36,4% of which were shipped through the ports of Arco Norte.
The monthly periodical collects data in ten producing states, with analyzes of the logistical aspects of the agricultural sector, the position of exports of major agricultural products in Brazil, analysis of the flow of cargo movement and a survey of the main routes used to transport the harvest.
The Bulletin also provides information on the movement of Conab stocks, carried out by carriers contracted via electronic auction.
