The Regional Coffee Growers' Cooperative in Guaxupé reached a historic milestone in 2024. Consolidating itself as a pillar of excellence in the coffee sector, Cooxupé achieved a record production of coffee prepared in its industrial plants, with 5,9 million bags processed.

The coffee preparation process is an essential step to guarantee the quality of the bean, in which defects such as stones, twigs, straw, broken, burnt, malformed beans, among others, are removed.

This is because, during the preparation process, the coffee basically goes through three subprocesses: reprocessing, ventilation and electronic selection. During reprocessing, the coffee is separated according to its grain size, passing through ten different sieves to meet official classification standards. Ventilation eliminates impurities according to the density of the beans. During electronic selection, the beans are separated according to their color, making it possible to identify and select up to 13 different color tones, ensuring the final quality of the coffee and meeting the most diverse quality standards required by the cooperative's customers, which exports the commodity to 50 countries on five continents.

“Reaching this milestone is essential, as we are able to meet the high demand for shipments, the market’s demand for quality and, at the same time, reduce outsourcing costs. This is a reflection of ongoing work on improvement and innovation,” says Cooxupé’s operations manager, Tales Silva Costa.

The high volume of coffee prepared by the cooperative is still the result of a strategy focused on progress and the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in Cooxupé's industrial units, located in the Japy Complex and the Head Office, both in Guaxupé – South of Minas Gerais, and in Monte Carmelo, in the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais. Among the main initiatives are changes in layouts, investments in technological solutions and constant training for teams.

According to the operations manager, integration between all areas of the cooperative was essential to achieve this result, especially the Logistics and Operations teams, which involve Industry, Warehouse, Production Planning and Control, Transportation, Infrastructure and Santos Administration.

Deivison Ricciardi, Cooxupé’s Logistics and Operations Superintendent, attributes this record to the dedication and joint effort of the entire team. “2024 was the year in which we processed the most coffee for shipment in our three industries. We were only able to achieve this result thanks to everyone’s collaboration and the trust of the cooperative’s board of directors and superintendence,” he concludes.
