The Secretariat of Agriculture, Supply, Aquaculture and Fisheries (Seag) and the Capixaba Institute of Research, Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Incaper) held, this week, an event that marked the beginning of the harvest of coffee plantations. Coffee Canephora in the Holy Spirit. The celebration was held in the community of Quartel de Cima, in the municipality of Linhares.

The conilon coffee harvest period is generally carried out until the month of August. For this year, it is estimated that production will reach the mark of 11,1 million bags, representing an increase of 9% compared to the previous harvest. The harvested area will reach 262,98 thousand hectares (+0,4%) and the expected average productivity is 42 bags per hectare (+8,2%), according to data from the National Supply Company (Conab).

The acting governor, Ricardo Ferraço, participated in the event and highlighted the importance of culture for the State. “There are at least 50 thousand properties in Espírito Santo that make a living from conilon coffee. There are 200 thousand hectares of planted area of a crop that, every moment, every year grows with quality, productivity and sustainability. This wealth has been a very important social lever for thousands of people from Espírito Santo,” he stated.

Last year, the State produced 10,2 million 60-kilo bags, in an area of 261,9 thousand hectares. The average productivity recorded was 38,8 bags per hectare.

“Capixabas coffee growers have proven, in recent years, to the world that the State produces in quantity and quality. Quality begins at harvest, when choosing the moment to start collecting the grains. But now, the international market is also demanding sustainability in production processes, which has become essential for remaining in the export market”, highlighted the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Enio Bergoli.

Conilon coffee export

Espírito Santo also stands out as the largest exporter of conilon coffee, with around 85% of national exports.
