The soybean mapping work carried out by the National Supply Company (Conab) in crops in the states of Piauí and Maranhão also takes place in Tocantins. In the north of the country, this week the Company's technicians visited the producing regions of the municipalities of Darcinópolis, Babaçulândia, Itapiratins, Pedro Afonso, Caseara, Novo Concordo, Lizarda, Dianópolis, Alas, Santa Rosa do Tocantins, Cariri do Tocantins in addition to the capital of state – Palmas.
The objective of the visits is to map the 2021/22 harvest of this crop, by identifying the oilseed crops in a sample space defined by random draw, followed by a specific methodology. The main information collected is the registration and geographic location of soybean crops, the identification of crops and their development phases, among others, in order to validate the previous mapping carried out using satellite images.
“The mapping also takes place in Maranhão, Piauí and Bahia, thus covering grain production in Matopiba. The activity is part of Conab's work carried out in partnership with the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) with the aim of mapping soybeans cultivated throughout the country in order to improve the data used in the state-owned company's harvest estimates”, explains the regional superintendent of Conab in Tocantins, Halana Santana Lima.
The operation that began this week is one of four planned stages of research in the state. The next steps to be carried out should take place in February and March of this year.
Conab is already mapping 98% of the country's total production area, based on remote sensing analyzes proven by in-person checks.
