The National Supply Company (Conab) negotiated approximately 91,7 thousand tons of rice in the three rounds of Option Contract auctions held this month, totaling 18 operations. According to the Company's balance of the operation, a total of 3.396 contracts were signed. If farmers choose to sell the product to the federal government on the expiration date of the negotiated contract, Conab will allocate approximately R$162,2 million.
Most of the negotiations were carried out in Rio Grande do Sul. Producers from Rio Grande do Sul are responsible for contracting 58.455 tons of the grain, which corresponds to 63,75% of the total negotiated. “More than 2 contracts were signed based on Conab auctions in the main rice-producing state,” emphasizes the Company’s Director of Operations and Supply, Arnoldo de Campos. “These farmers sought a guaranteed price at the time of future sales, since there is no obligation to sell to the federal government. The choice will be made by the producer himself, whether to sell to the market or to the government, according to what is most profitable at the time,” he emphasizes.
Another state that stood out in the operations was Mato Grosso, accounting for 31,54% of the lots sold at the auctions. There were 1.071 contracts negotiated, representing a volume of approximately 28,92 tons of the grain. “In addition to supporting producers, the action also aimed to stimulate rice production in the country. Farmers in Mato Grosso responded to this intention to expand planting of the cereal in other states,” highlights the Company’s director.
Purchases from Family Farming – For the first time, Conab has allocated part of the contracts for the exclusive participation of family farmers. The measure resulted in the negotiation of contracts for approximately 5,7 thousand tons of the grain. If the Company purchases this entire volume, R$10,11 million will be allocated for the acquisition of rice from family farming.
In the auctions held this month, Conab offered Rice Sale Option Contracts for the states of Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso and Tocantins. To carry out the operations, the federal government allocated approximately R$1 billion to the Company for the acquisition of up to 500 thousand tons of long grain fine unhulled rice, types 1 and 2 from the 2024/25 harvest.
