According to information from the 2nd Survey of the 2023 Coffee Harvest, released this Thursday (18/05) by the National Supply Company (Conab), the coffee harvest in Rondônia this year is expected to reach 3,1 million bags benefited, which represents a record harvest, with an increase of around 11,8% compared to the previous season.
According to the Bulletin, production was boosted by the 11,8% increase in average productivity for the current harvest, estimated at 48,2 bags per hectare, stimulated by favorable weather conditions, the entry of new areas into production using more resistant clones and with greater productive potential, better crop management and the fact that most crops are equipped with irrigation devices. On the other hand, the production area remains unchanged, currently estimated at 64.977 hectares, the same as last harvest.
The climatic conditions proved to be favorable for the development of the crop throughout its reproductive cycle, with regular rainfall in the most critical phases and temperatures not too high. This scenario was favorable and beneficial to the development of the crop, whose plants showed all their vegetative vigor, appearing well leafed and full-bodied, appearing to have a good nutritional appearance with well-loaded branches and rosettes.
Harvest operations across the state already exceed 50% and are expected to last until August. In the last ten harvests, average productivity jumped from 17,2 bags/ha in 2014 to the current 48,2 bags/ha, an exceptional increase of around 180%. “This increase, which occurs year after year in the productivity of coffee crops throughout the state, results from the renewal of the coffee farming standard, migrating from a system of low use of technology to a technological system. With this, Rondônia consolidates itself as the second main producing state of conilon coffee, behind only Espírito Santo”, observes the Company's Harvest Monitoring Manager, Fabiano Vasconcellos.
National coffee production in the 2023 harvest is expected to register growth of 7,5% compared to the previous cycle. The harvest is estimated at 54,74 million bags processed compared to 50,92 million bags in 2022. The good result is expected even in a year with a negative biennial, as shown in the 2nd crop survey.
