Global coffee exports, over a seven-month period, specifically in the period from October 2022 to April 2023, totaled the equivalent of a physical volume of 72,19 million 60kg bags. Of this volume, 42,52 million bags were of Arabica coffee, which corresponds to 58,3% of the total exported, and, additionally, 29,67 million bags of Robusta coffee, a volume that is equivalent to 41,7 % of global sales in the period in focus.

Focusing exclusively on the month of April of this year 2023, it appears that coffee exports, also at a global level, totaled 10,15 million bags, of which 6,15 million bags exported were Arabica coffees, physical volume that corresponds to 60,5% of the total sold, and, additionally, 4 million bags were of Robusta coffee (39,5%).

Thus, based on data from these two world performances of coffee exports mentioned, in percentage terms, it can be seen that the share of Arabica coffees in global exports is around 60%, and that, additionally, the sale of Robusta coffees to importers are approaching 40%, performances that are obviously very similar in the two periods covered by this analysis, mentioned above.

Such volumes of the world performance of coffee exports, highlighted, portray what was effectively sold to importers by coffee producing countries on the planet, which are divided and grouped by the International Coffee Organization – ICO into four major coffee regions in the world, namely: South America, Asia & Oceania, Mexico & Central America and Africa. Additionally, it is worth clarifying that the Organization's coffee year covers the period from October to September, hence these seven months are being analyzed and highlighted.

As demonstrated by the Report on the Coffee market – May 2023, from the ICO, which is also available in full at the Coffee Observatory, from the Consórcio Pesquisa Café, which is coordinated by Embrapa Café, specifically in the month of April this year 2023, the South America, the largest coffee producing region in the world, exported the equivalent of 3,57 million 60kg bags, a physical volume that corresponds to around 35% of what was exported in the aforementioned month by the four producing regions. However, this performance denotes a slight drop of 6,4% in exports from this region, compared to the same month of the previous year.

Complementing this analysis, based on statistical data on the performance of coffee farming at a global level, the ICO also highlights in its Report that exports from Asia & Oceania, in the month in question, exported a physical volume of 3,75 million bags, which equivalent to 37% of total sales, despite having recorded a small reduction of 1%, on the same comparative basis.

In relation to coffee exports from Africa, whose physical volume sold totaled 0,94 million 60kg bags, an amount that corresponds to 9,2% of the total that was exported worldwide in April, this performance denotes a drop of 9,8 .2023%, compared to the month of the previous year. And, finally, it remains to be mentioned that exports from Mexico & Central America reached a total of 1,9 million 60kg bags in April 18,7, sales that are equivalent to approximately 6,3% of what was recorded in the world in month under analysis. Furthermore, this region's performance represents an increase of 2022% compared to the performance of April XNUMX.

Concluding this analysis, based on statistical data from the ICO, referenced in its May Report, it is also worth highlighting the figures indicated, at a global level, for both production and consumption of coffee estimated for the coffee year 2022-2023. Thus, according to the Organization, world coffee production from the four coffee regions combined is expected to reach a physical volume of 171,3 million 60kg bags, a performance that will register a slight growth of 1,7%, compared to the previous coffee year. .

Furthermore, global coffee consumption is expected to reach the equivalent of 178,5 million bags, in the 2022-2023 coffee year, also registering a growth rate of 1,7%, compared to the previous year. However, if such performances are confirmed, the world coffee market is expected to experience another year of supply deficit of around 7,2 million 60kg bags, suggests the ICO Report.
