The Agriculture Committee of the Chamber of Deputies received this Thursday (30) a visit from a delegation of six members of the Chinese parliament, including four representatives from that country's agriculture committee.

At the meeting that welcomed the delegation, the vice-president of the Chinese Agriculture Commission, Ma Zhongping, explained that the objective of the visit is to monitor the work of Brazilian parliamentarians and exchange experiences. He positively assessed the position of the Brazilian government, which, according to him, maintains traditional cooperation between the two countries.

“China is importing 60 million tons of soybeans from Brazil annually, representing 80% of China’s total imports,” he said.

Representative Aline Sleutjes (PSL-PR) is a member of the Parliamentary Front for Agriculture and was part of the official Brazilian delegation that visited China a few days ago with the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina. She says that, due to swine fever that hit China, Brazil increased pork exports to that country by 44% last month, compared to the same period in 2018. The deputy sees a good time for Brazil to expand foreign sales not just pork, but also poultry and beef.

“We made a lot of progress in the negotiations, especially on the meat issue. They lost more than 40% of production, and it will take 3 to 5 years to stabilize”, noted the deputy.
