Embrapa Solos (RJ) received on Wednesday (10/4) a visit from Professor Hui Lin, director of the Institute of Spatial and Terrestrial Information Science at Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He was received by the Unit's international coordination supervisor, Margareth Simões, and researcher Pedro Freitas.

The Chinese professor learned about the Unit's thematic lines of research, especially work on low-carbon agriculture, geomatics, remote sensing and integrated production systems. “We explained to the professor Brazil's goals in relation to reducing degraded pasture areas and increasing sustainable practices in agriculture, integrated production systems and direct planting areas”, said Margareth. He also learned, in general terms, about research with Pedotransfer, Digital Soil Map, soil management and conservation and sustainable intensification of agriculture, in addition to the Brazilian National Soil Program (PronaSolos).

Hui will soon take over as rector of Jiang Normal University, which focuses on scientific exchange with international universities, between professionals and students, especially in the areas of geography, environment, geomatics and industry 4.0. “Professor Hui Lin invited our researchers to work at that institution as visiting scientists, to start working together with Embrapa”, informed Margareth.

The professor also demonstrated his intention to participate as a partner in the construction of a project that will be submitted within the scope of the BRICs, in a partnership between Brazil, China, South Africa and Russia, focusing on studies on soil degradation. Embrapa Solos is coordinating the initiative in Brazil.
