Minister Tereza Cristina (Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) met this Tuesday (22), in Beijing, with the president of Cofco, Jun Lyu. At the meeting, the Chinese executive informed that the group, China's largest food processor, intends to invest in four sugar plants in Brazil. It was also agreed to create a working group to discuss a policy on sugar and ethanol trade between the two countries.
In China, Minister Tereza Cristina highlighted that Brazil is able to supply more and more quality agricultural products to the Chinese market, including corn, sorghum, sesame and peanuts.
According to the minister, the country will diversify sales. During her visit to the Asian country, she negotiates the expansion of the export list, with the inclusion of cotton seed, concentrated soy protein, poultry genetic material, melon, grapes and pork giblets.
Another topic discussed was infrastructure. Tereza Cristina proposed that the Chinese also invest in logistics projects in Brazil, such as railways and ports, the main bottleneck for the flow of national agricultural production.
Jun Lyu highlighted the importance of Brazilian agriculture to the world and confirmed that he will be in Brazil in November, along with Chinese President Xi Jinping's delegation, for the BRICS Summit.
