The positive data for the economy of Piauí comes from grain production, with the Cerrado region being the one that exports the most in Piauí. According to the Association of Soy Producers of Piauí (Aprosoja Piauí), the main producing municipalities responsible for this participation are Baixa Grande do Ribeiro, Uruçuí, Ribeiro Gonçalves, Bom Jesus and Santa Filomena.

Piauí exported R$ 915, 5 million of which R$ 677 million came from grain exports, 74%, notably soybeans and in second place soybean bran, accounting for 6,6% of exports, that is , soy alone accounted for 80,6% of Piauí’s exports. And in third place also corn, which accounted for 5% of the total exported by the State.

Exports rose 27% compared to April, with R$247,2 million more. China is the country that purchases the most from Piauí, 65%, followed by Spain and the United States, with 7,3% and 4,9%, respectively.

Alzir Neto, president Aprosoja, emphasizes that this reality of soybeans as a flagship “shooting ahead, mainly in the movement of exports, should continue, but with the growing perspective of regional farmers, corn should strengthen internally”. According to him, the agroindustry can change its conception a little, mainly by encouraging more corn but not removing soybeans from the top of exports.
