CCAS advisor talks about the project that regulates pesticides

PL 1.459/2022 changes the rules relating to agricultural pesticides. The matter was discussed in a debate promoted by AENDA (Brazilian Association of Post-Patent Defensives) in conjunction with the Figueiredo & Santos office. Participants gave an overview of the political scenario, changes and the transition period.

Lawyer Lídia Cristina Jorge dos Santos (in the photo), member of the Sustainable Agro Scientific Council, spoke about the main changes in the regulatory scenario.

"We realized the need for the bodies involved, MAPA, IBAMA and Anvisa, to structure themselves for this, as well as the need to create a commission to act in this transition period", said Lídia.

The project establishes new rules for the commercialization of agricultural pesticides, provides for evaluation, approval and supervision of production.

Many old molecules are currently used in Brazil, as the approval process for new technologies is slow. With the entry into force of the new law, the deadline for obtaining pesticide registration in the country must be respected. Under penalty of release for temporary use.

"Many products that are currently used in other countries could be approved here. They will be molecules that are studied, tested, more efficient and that will contribute to increased productivity in crops in the country", concluded Lídia.
