The Canadian company Acadian Plant Health (APH) presents to the Brazilian market the Ascophyllum nodosum, a marine algae exclusive to the cold waters of the North Atlantic and intertidal zones, which lives under inhospitable conditions. With characteristics of submersion in salty water at certain periods, and exposure to dehydration at times of low tide, it faces extreme temperatures, which provides survival mechanisms through bioactive compounds.

Gustavo Gonella, marketing director at Acadian in Brazil, explains that seaweed is the active ingredient for biosolutions produced by the company, and has helped rural producers to enhance the quality of crops in the face of abiotic stress factors. Other aspects of launching algae onto the market are linked to technology and the extraction of bioactive compounds in a pure and active form.

According to the company, there are already more than six thousand published studies that reinforce the efficiency of this input in agriculture.

“The process not only releases bioactive compounds but also produces new compounds, making APH products unique in the world. By applying it to agricultural crops, we can transfer the qualities developed by algae to other plants, making them more resistant to abiotic stress. This efficiency is particularly important in Brazil, which faces high temperatures and also a lack or excess of rain throughout the year”, concludes Cleiton Alves, regional technical manager at APH.
