Registration of CPR above R$50 becomes mandatory in January

The volume of registrations of these credit securities at B3 grew 90% in 2022

The mandatory registration of Rural Product Certificates (CPR) with values ​​starting at R$1 comes into force on January 2023, 50. The rule, provided for in CMN Resolution No. 4927, establishes that all banknotes, financial or physical, above this value must be registered with an entity authorized by the Central Bank to be valid and effective.

Leader in the segment, B3 registered more than 110 thousand CPRs throughout 2022, a number 90% higher than in 2021. As of December 26, the stock of CPRs at B3 totaled more than R$180 billion, volume 102% higher than that recorded in the previous year. The volume of customers also continues to grow, with a 29% increase in the number of active customers year on year.

The registration of CPRs at registers authorized by the Central Bank became mandatory in 2021, in that first year, for banknotes issued above R$1 million, and was extended to banknotes issued above R$250 thousand, in 2022.

“The CPR is one of the main instruments for financing the agribusiness production chain, as it allows the issuer to obtain resources for the development of rural production or enterprises. The mandatory registration of banknotes over R$50 will bring more transparency to the market, more security for the producer and promote growth for the entire chain”, explains Fernando Bianchini, Products Superintendent at B3.

The CPR is a title representing the promise of future delivery of agricultural products and can be issued by rural producers or their associations, including cooperatives. It was created by Law 8.929/1994.
