The president of the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA), João Martins, received, on Wednesday (July 29), the minister of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Augusto Nardes, and rural producers from the Federal District, Bahia and Goiás to discuss the modernization of rural credit in the country.
Those participating in the meeting included CNA vice-presidents Gedeão Pereira and Muni Lourenço, the general director of Senar, Daniel Carrara, the technical director of CNA, Bruno Lucchi, the coordinator of Agricultural Production at CNA, Guilherme Rios, and representatives from the minister's team.
According to the minister, the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts) initiated an audit of the National Rural Credit Policy at the request of the National Congress. In this context, Augusto Nardes stated that dialogue with producers and the CNA (National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock) is fundamental for gathering contributions.
CNA Vice President Gedeão Pereira highlighted that the modernization of rural credit must also consider strengthening instruments such as rural insurance. "If we had a balanced and robust tool, we wouldn't be experiencing this situation of indebtedness in the countryside," he said.
Another topic discussed at the meeting was the practice of tied selling by financial institutions when granting credit. The technical director of the CNA, Bruno Lucchi, stated that the Confederation has already created, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), a channel for reporting this issue, but advocated for greater commitment to combating the practice.
