Brazilian apples have a harvest marked by even tastier fruits

The apples that will reach Brazilian consumers in the coming months will be marked by flavor. With the 2022/2023 harvest complete, both producers and sector leaders have highlighted the quality of the products. The fruits of this harvest are even sweeter due to a favorable combination of climatic conditions, with a high temperature range, with variations in intense heat and cold, and the end of the harvest cycle before the rainy season.

The Brazilian apple is recognized for its sweeter flavor, compared to production in other countries. This is due to the good amount of sun that the plants receive. "This is a characteristic that Brazilians are very pleased with. Our fruit is internationally known as sweeter compared to apples produced in other countries", explains the executive director of the Brazilian Association of Apple Producers (Abpm), Moisés Lopes de Albuquerque.

Mainly concentrated in the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, the harvest of Brazilian apples takes place between January and May. With this, producers were able to finish harvesting in the orchards before the rains that hit the south of the country during the month of June. Dry weather during the harvest period is another important factor in ensuring product quality.

Storage technology in cold chambers located in agro-industrial complexes guarantees product availability throughout the year. Brazilian apples supply the national market and are also exported to more than 40 countries. Currently, the majority of orchards are located in Fraiburgo and São Joaquim (SC), in addition to Vacaria (RS).
