This was highlighted by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), Blairo Maggi, this Monday (23), during the Global Agribusiness Forum 2018, in São Paulo (SP). In the case of meat, production is expected to reach 35 million tons, an increase of 27% over the current result. According to the minister, grain exports are expected to jump from 102 million tons in 2017/18 to 139 million tons in 2027/28.

Furthermore, according to Maggi, meat shipments are expected to grow from 6,5 million tons in 2017/18 to 8,8 million at the end of the next ten years. “In 2027/28, we want Brazil to have a 10% share of global agricultural trade.”

Trade War

At a press conference, the minister also warned that the trade war between China and the United States is negative for Brazilian agribusiness, because it significantly alters trade flows and impacts the prices of agricultural commodities, generating volatility in prices. “In addition, of course, any protectionist measure is bad for the free market”, he highlighted.

Maggi said the government is working to lift embargoes on Brazilian meats in Russia - beef and pork, China and the European Union - chicken. “The expectation is that we will have news at the Brics meeting.”

Regarding the front schedule, the minister stated that there is a risk for the next grain harvest, due to possible problems with the delivery of fertilizers, as well as an increase in transport prices.

Finally, Maggi also pointed out that the Bill that aims to change the law on pesticides aims to modernize the legislation, ensuring that Brazilian agribusiness has access to more modern products from an agronomic and safety point of view. people, animals and the environment.
