Brazilian executive takes on global digital leadership role at Syngenta.

Syngenta has appointed Brazilian executive Gustavo Almeida as "Global Head of Commercial Digital Technologies." The role involves leading digital platforms, engineering, and architectural vision for the company's commercial business. The position is part of the global structure based in Basel, Switzerland.

Almeida leads the strategic definition of commercial technology platforms. The role includes digital transformation and technological modernization initiatives. The executive also leads the creation and expansion of engineering centers focused on the commercial business. The agenda includes the adoption of modern architectures and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

The professional has been with the company for 15 years. Prior to this new role, they led the IT & Digital area in Brazil. This team comprised approximately 130 professionals. Their work integrated digital technologies and corporate processes to support the growth of the Brazilian operation and expand digital offerings for rural producers.

Between 2018 and 2024, Almeida led the IT area for Latin America and Brazil. His management unified regional technological governance. The period included infrastructure projects and systems modernization.

Prior to Syngenta, the executive worked at Nestlé for over eight years on projects involving systems integration, supply chain management, and SAP implementation. His career began at Monsanto, where he participated in the national implementation of the SAP system for its seed and chemical businesses.

Almeida holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos. The executive completed an MBA in Business and Project Management from the Fundação Instituto de Administração. He also participated in executive programs at MIT Sloan School of Management, Purdue University, and London Business School.
