Coffees from Brazil were exported to 128 countries in 2019 and reached a physical volume of 40,6 million 60kg bags, with an average price of US$125,49 per bag, which generated US$5,1 billion in foreign exchange revenue in the year. The volume of coffee exported in 2019 increased by 13,9% compared to 2018, which was 35,6 million bags. Exports of differentiated coffees increased by 21,2% compared to last year, and ended the year with a volume of 7,5 million bags exported.

Regarding the varieties shipped in 2019, Brazil showed an increase of 14,8%, compared to 2018, in green coffee exports, reaching a volume of 36,6 million 60kg bags. Of this total, 32,6 million bags were of Arabica coffee, an increase of 11%, and 3,9 million bags of Robusta coffee, which had a significant increase of 59,5%. Industrialized coffees increased by 7%, with a volume equivalent to 4 million bags, of which 3,98 million were soluble coffee and 24,4 thousand bags were roasted and ground coffee. Both exports of green coffee and soluble coffee achieved record results in 2019.

The main destinations for Brazilian Coffees in 2019 were the United States with 7,9 million bags, which corresponded to 19,4% of total Brazilian exports, followed by Germany with 6,8 million bags (16,7 .3,6% of the total), in third, Italy with 8,8 million (2,6%), Japan imported 6,4 million bags, and occupies fourth position with 2,5% of the total volume. Next, Belgium with 6,2 million (1,2%), Turkey, 2,9 million (1,1%), the Russian Federation with 2,6 million (951%), Mexico with 2,3 thousand bags (941%), the United Kingdom, 2,3 thousand (900,2%) and Canada with 2,2 thousand (2019%) complete the top ten destinations for Brazilian Coffee in 200,8. Of these countries, it is worth highlight the XNUMX% growth in exports to Mexico, compared to the previous year.

These performance figures for Brazilian coffee exports, among other relevant sector data, are included in the Monthly report December 2019of the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council - Cecafe, which is available in full on Coffee Observatory of the Café Research Consortium, coordinated by Embrapa Café.

According to the Cecafé Report, the volume exported of differentiated coffees, which have superior quality or some type of certificate of sustainable practices, was 7,5 million bags in 2019, with an average price of US$159,19 per bag, which generated foreign exchange revenue of US$ 1,2 billion, an amount that corresponds to 23,6% of the total revenue generated by Cafés do Brasil. It is worth noting that this exported volume increased by 21,2% in relation to exports of differentiated coffees in 2018, whose volume was 6,3 million bags. The five main destinations for Brazilian differentiated coffees were, respectively, the United States, which imported 24,8% of the total, Germany (12,4%), Japan (10,9%), Italy (9,8% ) and Belgium (8,4%).

Regarding global coffee consumption, Cecafé presents a projection that indicates, based on data from the International Coffee Organization – ICO, that the volume consumed in 2030 should be between 197,78 and 220,30 million bags. If the projected midpoint estimate is confirmed, 208,76 million bags will be consumed worldwide. In this case, as Brazil accounts for approximately one third of world production, it can be inferred that to maintain the market share This market will have to increase its production to around 70 million bags per year.

Finally, it is worth highlighting the importance of coffee exports in generating balance in the Brazilian trade balance. In 2019, Brazil's exports totaled US$223,99 billion and imports US$177,34 billion, with a trade surplus of US$46,65. In the same period, exports related to Brazilian Coffee totaled US$ 5,1 billion and imports linked to coffee farming only US$ 81,7 million, which generated a trade balance of US$ 5,01 billion. It is noted that Brazilian Coffees were responsible for a significant 10,9% of the total balance of trade, which demonstrates the importance of coffee farming in generating foreign exchange.

In addition to these highlights, the Monthly report December 2019 It also brings various data, information and analyzes on Brazilian coffee exports, percentage participation by quality in exports, exports of differentiated coffees, coffee exports by continent, group and economic bloc, the main destinations and ports of shipment of exports, profile of the world coffee consumption, projection of world coffee consumption for 2030, Brazilian participation in world coffee exports, trade balance data, statistical series, in addition to the article “Sustainable Coffee Culture – The sustainability of Brazilian Coffee on the international agenda”.
