The total physical volume of Brazilian Coffee exports, in the accumulated 12 months, specifically in the period from June 2022 to May 2023, reached the equivalent of 36,16 million 60kg bags, which were sold to importing countries for an average price of US$229,26 per unit.
It is worth noting that of the total Brazilian coffee exported, in the period in question, 32,34 million 60kg bags were green coffee, of which 30,96 million bags were of the species of Coffea arabica, a volume that corresponds to 85,6% of the total purchased by importers, in addition to 1,38 million bags of Coffea canephora (robusta+conilon), a volume equivalent to 3,8% of these sales. Thus, as can be seen, green coffee exports were equivalent to 89,4% of the total accumulated in 12 months.
In this same context, it is worth emphasizing that in addition, in the same period mentioned above, the equivalent in physical volume of 3,82 million 60kg bags of industrialized coffee were also exported, a total that corresponds to 10,6% of the general volume exported. , being 3,77 million bags of soluble coffee (10,4%), plus 47,98 thousand bags of roasted and ground coffee, which corresponded to just 0,1% of the total industrialized product.
Complementing the data from this analysis of the performance of Brazilian Coffee exports, exclusively in the current calendar year, specifically in the accumulated five months, in the period from January to May 2023, it appears that 13,57 million bags of 60kg, whose foreign exchange revenue reached a total value of US$ 2,95 billion, with an average price of US$ 217,84 for a 60kg bag.
Furthermore, if only the performance of exports in the month of May of this current year is highlighted, it appears that 2,44 million 60kg bags were exported, which provided a total foreign exchange revenue of US$ 544,82 million , with an average price of US$222,53 million per bag. This average price was obtained considering that the C. arabica was exported at a price of US$ 234,27 per unit, the C. canephora (robusta+conilon) at US$ 142,70, and, finally, the soluble coffee at US$ 180,60, in this case, the unit that is equivalent and corresponds to a 60kg bag.
For the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council – Cecafe, according to several analyzes contained in its Monthly Report – May 2023, a document that is also available in full at the Coffee Observatory, of the Consórcio Pesquisa Café coordinated by Embrapa Café, the performance of coffee exports for the month of May 2023, in comparison with the same month of the previous year, they registered a decrease of 17,4% in physical volume and 22,6% in obtaining foreign exchange revenue.
And, more than that, according to what is also literally contained in the Cecafe Report the subject of this analysis, “With this performance, national coffee shipments, in the accumulated 11 months of the 2022/23 harvest year, reached 32,977 million bags, which implies a drop of 9,7% compared to the 36,501 million measured between July 2021 and May 2022. Revenue, reflecting the higher average price of the product in the current range – US$ 228,83/bag against US $ 202,47/bag –, an increase of 2,1% in the same comparison, totaling US$ 7,546 billion”.
Finally, if a ranking is established of the ten countries that imported the most Coffees from Brazil, in the period from January to May of this year, in descending order, it appears that the United States continues to be the main importer of our product, a country which acquired the equivalent of 2,51 million 60kg bags, a volume that represents a drop of 23,1% compared to the same period in 2022. However, this physical volume acquired is equivalent to 18,5% of total coffee exports during the period in question.
And, following the ranking, using the same comparative parameters for the other countries to be mentioned, in second place comes Germany, with a share of 12,5% in coffee imports, having acquired 1,69 million bags, the despite the fact that such imports represent a 46% drop in relation to the volume acquired in the same five months of the previous year. Next comes Italy, with imports of 1,11 million bags (-21,7%); Japan, with 837,43 thousand bags (+14,2%); Belgium, with 630,26 thousand bags (-62,3%); and Colombia, with 538,07 thousand bags (-2,9%).
Concluding the ranking, in the case of seventh to tenth places, the performance was positive, given that these countries increased their respective imports. Thus, Turkey imported 460,44 thousand bags, a volume that implied an increase of 34,9%, compared to the first five months of 2022. Next comes the Netherlands, with 422,27 thousand bags (+43,6%) ; Argentina, with 379,41 thousand bags (+23,4%); and France, in tenth position, for having purchased 377,37 thousand 60kg bags, which corresponded to an increase of 7,7% of its imports of Brazilian Coffees, on the same comparative basis.
